There are dozens of outstanding wrestlers that could've been the focus of the cover features for our new Kansas Pregame Winter Sports Preview released last November. Goddard's Troy Fisher, Derby's Cade Lindsey and Triston Wills, Newton's Wyatt Hendrickson, Eureka's Kendall and Kolby Beitz, and the list goes on and on. Narrowing a list to just four of the top wreslters in the state is challenging, but this weekend's regional tournament results certainly prove that this grappling quartet is among the best in the Sunflower State.
After a brief stint in Wichita, one of the state’s largest high school athletic testing combines is back in Salina and scheduled for Saturday, April 13th, at the new Salina Fieldhouse at 140 N. 5th St. Sharp Performance CEO Jake Sharp announced Salina Regional Orthopedic and Sports Medicine will join the event as the title sponsor, helping to keep the event free for athletes across the state.
Lincoln students and fans celebrated the high school's first team state athletic championship in nearly 40 years during Tuesday's home basketball games as the Lincoln girls cross country team was honored after the girls varsity game. The four athletes and their veteran coach, Steve Crist, were recognized at mid-court and a championship banner was hung in the gym.
The Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association released their final rankings Tuesday as regionals begin throughout Kansas this weekend. In many cases, regional championship matchups will also be repeated as state title matchups, but for most wrestlers, their focus in regionals is just to qualify for the state tournament.
Regional tournaments begin Friday afternoon and continue into the evening with remaining rounds on Saturday.
