
From 6A all through 1A, sub-state basketball is all wrapped-up in the state of Kansas.
6A (Boys)
The 6A field at Koch Arena is set on the boys side. Every top-seed made state, with the excpetion of a gaint upset on the West side. Derby, who began sub-state with a 4-14 record and had to win a play-in game, fell just short of the state tournament with a loss in the sub-state finals. Derby destroyed fourth-ranked Topeka High, 62-26, and fell to 10th-ranked Lawrence-Free State by five points in the sub-state finals.
6A East


The Dodge City High School PE Expansion provides one of the best indoor practice facilities in the state. The project, completed in May 2018, is used for a variety of Dodge City High School programs and was funded as part of a bond issue.
Kansas Pregame caught up with Dodge City High School Athletic Director Jay Gifford to learn more about this new facility.

Eureka head coach Mike Davison stood in the center of Fort Hays State University’s Gross Memorial Coliseum after the 3-2-1A state wrestling tournament concluded Saturday afternoon. Davison and the Tornadoes lined up for picture after picture, first in the stands and then on the mats with the team and individuals.

High school and college coaches are in near unanimous agreement that athletes should not specialize in just one sport. High school athletes are encouraged to run track in the offseason to improve speed, while playing baseball or softball can improve reflexes.
While many sports are complementary, many coaches agree, there are two sports that go hand in hand. Football coaches love offensive and defensive linemen who wrestle, and wrestling coaches love a 285-pounder who has experience fighting in the trenches.

The Circle High School boys basketball team accomplished something they had not done since 2013 — beat AVCTL DIII foe McPherson.
There are very few similarities between Circle’s win seven years ago and their win Friday, Feb. 15. Both wins were at home, but even the gym has been changed and updated since then.


Twice a part of the annual "Weighting Game" feature in Kansas Pregame Football Magazine, Clifton-Clyde senior Drake Steinbrock is known for his feats of strength. While others play basketball or wrestle during the winter, Steinbrock travels to powerlifting meets across Kansas where he competes against a barbell and multiple 45 pound plates.

Riley County seniors Luke Richard and Mikey Waggoner took home regional titles from Rossville last weekend and hope to cap their high school careers with a state championshp this weekend at the 3-2-1A Kansas High School Wrestling Championships at Gross Memorial Coliseum on the campus of Fort Hays State University.
Each wrestler enters the tournament ranked first in their respective classification - Richard at 145 and Waggoner at 170 - and the duo is a combined 70-0 on the season. The Falcons qualified seven wrestlers for state in winning the Rossville regional.
