Piper High School’s Ryan Cobbins gives back to her community in more ways than just basketball.

She is among the top players in the state of Kansas. The four-year starter has eclipsed 1,000 points in her career and has earned All-State honors her freshman, sophomore, and junior seasons.

According to Cobbins, her nomination as a McDonald’s All-American is the accomplishment she’s most proud of, and even though she wasn't selected she says the nomination is an acknowledgement of her work thus far.

Kansas Pregame Winter Covergirl Aubree Dewey, a junior for the Plainville Cardinals, heaved up 3/4 court bomb to close out the third quarter of Tuesday night's game with Trego, and much like the rest of the shots she puts up, it went in, giving the Cardinals a 25-24 lead. Plainville would eventually lose 42-36 to fall to 7-7 on the season, but Dewey scored 27 and remains one of the most prolific scorers in all of Kansas girls basketball averaging nearly 29 points per game.

This article originally appeared on KansasPregame.com January 20th. The article was updated January 30th after interviewing New Orleans Saints' tight end Garrett Griffin, and his father Gary, who both appeared on the 2011 cover of Kansas Pregame, to talk about what it was like to experience Garrett scoring a touchdown in the NFC Championship game. While the controversial loss remains a stinging defeat for Saints and their fans, it will remain a special milestone for the Griffin family.

Pratt running back Travis Theis plans to play football at the University of South Dakota this fall. (Theis photo in South Dakota uniform provided courtesy of Theis from his Twitter account)

Pratt quarterback/running back Travis Theis will go down as one of the state’s all-time greats. He’ll be remembered with the likes of other undersized Kansas stars like Rossville’s Tucker Horak and Paola’s Brian Shay. Could he find similar success in college? The next four years will tell the tale, and for Theis, known for his supreme focus and intensity, that tale will be written at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion.

McPherson High School sophomore starting point guard Max Alexander doesn't flinch in big moments.

It was his go-ahead 3-pointer on Dec. 11 at Buhler with 20 seconds left that gave the Bullpups a 54-51 win to avoid an extremely uncharacteristic 0-4 start to the season.

Alexander also hit clutch free throws in the semifinals of the McPherson Invitational against Shawnee Heights to help the Bullpups win a 51-50 thriller on Jan. 18 in the Roundhouse.
The first-year starter is enjoying and taking advantage of every moment.
