Rankings after Week 7

Here we are, in the final week of the season. As it always seems, another season has zoomed by and after this week the playoff picture will be framed and hung up for all to see. In the meantime, here's our take on the top teams in each class.

Class 6A

1. Manhattan (7-0)
2. Olathe North (7-0)
3. Wichita Northwest (6-1)
4. Derby (5-2)
5. Gardner-Edgerton (5-2)

Don't look now, but only two weeks of the regular season remain and the playoff picture is starting to crystalize. Key games will impact seeding in the larger classes while district championships are on the line in the smaller classifications.

We can't wait for the playoffs to sort out all this ranking nonsense, but in the meantime, here's our take on the Top 5 in each classification.

After 46 years of service as a coach, administrator, and educator, Sylvan-Lucas Unified’s Jude Stecklein decided to call it a career at the end May, and his retirement is well-deserved.

Bad Behavior by Coaches, Parents and Fans Must Stop

There’s an unfortunate trend continuing in Kansas and across the nation that must be stopped: the bad behavior of coaches, parents and fans at high school athletic events.

We’ve all seen it: the yelling, harassing, berating, disrespecting and even physically assaulting high school referees, umpires and other officials during and after games. And oftentimes, the harassment continues on social media. Perhaps you’ve witnessed it firsthand or even been one of those offenders yourself.
