Kansas Pregame has partnered with the Kansas Football Coaches Association to provide capsules for their Top 11 and Coach of the Year picks. The team consists of 11 players and an overall Coach of the Year which were nominated from each classification's KFBCA All-State teams and voted on by coaches at the annual KFBCA All-State meeting December 9th in Wichita.

Note, the teams are composed of seniors only and only players from dues paying members of the association are considered. The KFBCA is composed of only 11-Man coaches. The 8-Man coaches operate a separate Kansas Eight-Man Football Coaches Association.

Trey Sides, Phillipsburg, 6-1, 170, QB

Sides was a four year starter and finished his career as the most successful high school quarterback in Phillipsburg history leading the Panthers to state championships in his freshman and senior seasons and the quarterfinals as a sophomore. Sides also helped the Panthers to a semifinal run in his junior campaign but missed both the quarterfinal and semifinal games with a broken thumb.

Phillipsburg coach J.B. Covington is known for his run heavy offensive schemes, but Sides production in the passing game was significant, if not spectacular. In four seasons Sides piled up 3,354 yards passing while completing 169 of 326 attempts with 51 touchdowns against just 13 interceptions. He also added 1,331 rushing yards on 220 carries with 24 more scores while distributing the ball to a bevy of talented running backs. He also recorded eight career interceptions as a defensive back.

In addition to his recognition from the KFBCA, Sides earned Hays Daily News Super 11 honors and was recently selected to play in the Kansas Shrine Bowl. Sides is also one of the top basketball players in Kansas and last year led Phillipsburg to a berth in the 3A State Championship where the Panthers lost by one point to Halstead. Sides, who is coached by his father, Keith, and hopes to play college basketball, recently received a Division I basketball offer from Jacksonville University in Florida.

Phillipsburg coach J.B. Covington on Sides: “Trey called our no-huddle tempo offense from the line of scrimmage this year. We converted to more of a multiple formation offense with motion. He was responsible for calling the formation, blocking scheme, play and cadence. He was very efficient with our post snap RPOs in this offense.”

Smith Center coach Darren Sasse on Sides: “Trey is such a consistent player, however, even surrounded by great players he stands out. For four years, when they needed a play made, he would make it.”
