Nex-Generation Round-up for Youth director Jacque Beckman congratulates Lauryn Dubbert for her graduation from the program following a summer working for Kansas Pregame.

St. John’s Beloit-Tipton grad Lauryn Dubbert and a group of high school and college students from across northwest Kansas celebrated completion of the Nex-Generation Roundup for Youth internship program with graduation ceremonies earlier this week.

The Nex-Generation Roundup for Youth just finished its 10th year and has rapidly grown its reputation by continuously providing opportunities for young people across northwest and north central Kansas to gain hands-on experience in a variety of fields.

The 97 interns in this year’s program are spread throughout 26 territories in counties ranging from Cheyenne, Republic, Saline, Wallace, and everything in between.

Dubbert, formerly a featured Kansas Pregame athlete, interned with the sports media company over the summer.

“I really enjoyed my experience with the Nex-Generation program!” Dubbert said. “I met some great new people and have made some new connections.”

Coming off a successful high school career in both academics and athletics, Dubbert was St. John’s Beloit-Tipton class valedictorian, finishing with a 3.98 GPA. For her efforts in the classroom, she was also named a Kansas Honor Scholar and a Governor’s Scholar.

In the realm of sports, Dubbert’s exploits are no surprise to many, as she comes from a family that includes some of Kansas’ top athletes over the last decade.

Her oldest brother, Trey, a 2015 high school grad, was a standout at St. John’s Beloit-Tipton before going on to become a four-year letterman for Sterling College in basketball.

Next was Davis, a 2017 graduate and a big time contributor in football, basketball, and track for the Blujays. Davis still holds the state record for consecutive threes, hitting 11 straight over the course of three games as a junior, he went on to become a high jumper at Wichita State after winning state in the event during high school.

Keeping the every-two-year flow for the Dubbert family, Kail graduated in 2019 and was a rare four-sport athlete, taking part in football, basketball, track and golf. After a busy and successful career as a Blujay, the second youngest of the Dubbert children went on to attend K-State.

Lauryn, a 2021 graduate, dominated the basketball court throughout high school, averaging 18 points per game as a four-year starter and helping the Blujays to a 70-16 record over the course of her career. As a senior, she averaged 22.6 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and an astounding 6.4 steals per game while leading St. John’s Beloit/Tipton to an 18-2 record and a third place finish at state.

Lauryn also stood out in volleyball, amassing 596 kills, 123 aces, 1,196 digs and 107 blocks throughout her career. As a senior, she led St. John’s to the sub-state championship game, where they came up just short of reaching the state tournament against Linn.

In track and field, after placing fourth in the javelin as a freshman and sophomore at the state meet, and then dealing with the COVID cancellation of spring sports during her junior year, she took the state title as a senior with a throw of 132-11, just short of her PR earlier in the season of 135 feet.

Further assisting the Blujays in their third place team finish at Cessna Stadium, Dubbert also placed second in the pole vault, tying her PR with a 10-foot vault, fourth in the 300 meter hurdles (47.75 PR), and sixth in the 100 meter hurdles (15.87 PR).

With high school behind her, Dubbert is moving on to the next phase of her life at Newman University, where she is going to play basketball and major in Business Marketing with an emphasis in social media.

A big step in Dubbert’s budding professional career has been the opportunity provided by the Nex-Generation program and Kansas Pregame, as she was instrumental in preparing content for Pregame’s layout as well as creating social media posts for Pregame at various Sharp Performance football combines during the summer.

“Some of the biggest takeaways were gaining more experience posting with social media on someone else’s account and also learning to be attentive to detail when typing the capsules,” Dubbert said. “I also learned more about the showcase events and how much work the reporters and people put into these events for the kids participating.”

Whether or not Dubbert returns to the program for a second year next summer, like many in the program have done in the past, she recognizes the clear value the internship provides.

“I would definitely recommend people to look into finding an internship through this company,” Dubbert said. “It gains you great experience with great bosses and people that want to help you further your career path. It also serves as a nice summer job.”
