One week out, more top performer profiles

The annual Sharp Performance Free Athletic Testing Combine returned to Salina April 17th after coronavirus concerns led to the cancellation of the free combine last spring. Dozens of athletes traveled to USD #305 District Stadium to test despite the cold temperatures and overcast skies. The event is free thanks to the generous support of sponsors like Salina Regional Sports Medicine, providing patients a "home-field advantage."

Kansas Pregame profiles some of the top performers below. College coaches can find their Twitter handle next to each athlete's name/team/height/weight info to access even more information about each prospect. This second installment features athletes with last names beginning with the letters L through R. Look for more coverage of top performers from the event early next week.

Logan Ladish, KC Piper, 6-2, 180.6, QB, 2023 (@loganladish): Piper sophomore QB Logan Ladish is one to watch this fall. After splitting time a season ago he should take over as the full-time starter and if he can translate his Sharp Performance Combine marks into the product on the field it could be a breakout season. At 6-2, 180.6 Ladish posted 40 times in the low 4.7s to go along with a 4.57 second pro agility, a 33.2 inch vertical jump and a 9-3 broad jump with 5 bench reps at 185. Ladish also boasts great arm strength, recently extending his own school record in the javelin with a throw of 162-7.

Curtis Landrum, McPherson, 5-11, 204.2, DL, 2022 (@CurtisLandrum30): Another key returner on one of the state's top defenses, Landrum will enter his third year as a starter this fall. While Landrum didn't display blazing top-end speed with 40 times right around 5-flat, he did show off good lateral quickness with a pro agility time of 4.57 and just missed a 30 inch vertical jump. He also posted a 7-11 broad jump and 7 bench reps at 185. Landrum has recorded 79 total tackles for the Bullpups in his career with 9 for loss and 5 sacks and displays a nose for the ball with four career fumble recoveries including three last fall.

Matthew Lierz, Holton, 6-0, 187.2, QB/S, 2023 (@LierzMatthew): Lierz saw limited playing time at quarterback for the Wildcats last fall but was a key piece of the Holton defense where he recorded 51 tackles and 4 interceptions from his safety position. He also caused 4 fumbles and recorded 2 tackles for loss. He showed tremendous lateral quickness at last Saturday's Combine with a 4.27 pro agility. He ran high 4.6s in the 40, posted a 28.5 inch vertical, an 8-8 broad jump and 3 reps at 185 on bench press. Lierz is a multi-sport athlete and also earned honorable mention All-Big 7 for his play on the basketball court this past season.

Logan Losey, Salina Central, 5-10, 172.2, WR, 2022 (@logan_losey): A slot receiver, Losey led the Mustangs with 32 catches for 458 yards and 4 TDs a season ago, good for second team All-AVCTL Division II honors. Losey's all-around athleticism was on display at Saturday's Combine. He posted a 4.59 40 time, a 4.49 pro agility, a 35.3 inch vertical jump and a 9-2 broad jump. Losey also plays basketball for the Mustangs and is expecting a big senior sports season.

Angel Luna, Salina Central, 6-4, 269, OL, 2022 (@angelluna_77): Luna displayed an excellent mix of size and mobility at last Saturday's Combine running a 5.24 40, a 4.87 pro agility and posting an 8-1 broad jump. He also did 14 reps at 225 on bench and appears poised to be one of the top lineman in the AVCTL this fall.

Collin McCartney, Frontenac, 6-3, 198.6, QB/S/DE, 2022 (@CollinMcCartne5): A dual-threat QB and versatile defender who plays both safety and defensive end McCartney didn't post the 40 times he hoped running in the low 4.8s, but he showed off excellent lateral quickness with a 4.36 pro agility and also displayed good upper body strength with 10 reps at 185 on bench press. He fell just short of a 30 inch vertical jump and added an 8-8 broad jump. McCartney accounted for more than 1,800 yards of total offense last fall with 21 total touchdowns and all this while missing the first two games of the season after having an appendectomy. On defense he recorded 50 total tackles with 1.5 for loss and 2 pass breakups. McCartney is also a pitcher for the Raider baseball team and Monday posted 9 strikeouts in a 6-1 win over Girard.

Luke McLaughlin, Rose Hill, 6-2, 175, WR/CB, 2023 (@McLaughlinLuke5): McLaughlin recorded 41 tackles and 7 pass deflections last year as a sophomore and is an intriguing prospect given his mix of height and athleticism. He recorded a 4.65 40 time, a 29.1 inch vertical jump and a 9-0 broad jump at last Saturday's Combine and will look to make an impact on both sides of the ball for an improved Rockets team this fall.

Keyan Miller, Concordia, 5-8, 185, RB/LB, 2022 (@KeyanMiller22): One of the top running backs returning in Class 3A this fall, Miller had a fantastic day at the April 17th Combine running consistent 40 times in the 4.5s with a personal best of 4.49 on the day. He also posted a 32.2 inch vertical jump and 8 reps at 225 on bench. Miller is also one of the state's top wrestlers, placing sixth at 170 pounds at the 4A State Championships, and is one of the better sprinters in north central Kansas where he has recorded a personal best of 11.4 in the 100 meter dash. Miller earned All-League and All-State recognition for his play on the football field last fall and in March he finished third at the 3A State Powerlifting Championship where he won the Clean event with a lift of 275. Miller rushed for 476 yards on 66 carries last fall (7.2 ypc) and tallied 64 tackles, with 2.5 for loss and a fumble recovery. Miller now has 1,631 career rushing yards, 19 career receptions for 276 yards and 135 career tackles.

Carter Olson, Shawnee Heights, 6-6, 210.8, TE/DE, 2022: Olson's height and frame are impressive and he has room to add weight. An injury took most of Olson's season last fall but coach Jason Swift has very high expectations for his big end's senior season. Olson ran in the 5.1s in the 40 and displayed good lateral quickness with a best pro agility time of 4.48. He did 6 reps at 185 on bench and added an 8-4 broad jump. A good fall season could put Olson on the map and his height and athleticism could move him up recruiting boards.

Trey Omli, Eisenhower, 6-3, 180, S, 2022 (@OmliTrey): The younger brother of Chance Omli, now a defensive back at Butler CC, Trey could emerge as a top safety prospect after posting 31 tackles and 2 interceptions a year ago and running a 4.63 40 with a 4.33 pro agility at Saturday's Combine. He added a 9-4 broad jump and a 29.9 inch vertical jump.

Dalton Owen, Concordia, 6-4, 286.6, OL, 2022 (@DaltonOwen16): Big all-conference offensive lineman Dalton Owen had a nice day at Saturday's combine running 5.1 in the 40 and posting a 22.4 inch vertical jump at nearly 300 pounds and adding 8 reps of 225 on bench. This is a prospect that could be poised to make some noise for a team that has several key pieces back offensively.

Chase Poague, Southeast of Saline, 6-1.5, 169.2, ATH/KR/DB, 2022 (@ChasePoague): Poague had one of the best days at Saturday's Combine running 4.45 in the 40 with a 33.8 inch vertical jump and a 9-9 broad jump. He also recorded 4 bench reps at 185 and a 4.5 second pro agility. Poague was a versatile player for the Trojans a year ago with 23 carries for 112 yards and 1 TD, 17 receptions for 313 yards with 4 touchdowns and 234 yards on 7 kickoff returns with a 90 yard touchdown return. On defense Poague has 51 career tackles with 4 for loss, 4 interceptions, and a fumble recovery for a touchdown. Poague is also a top track athlete who excels at the hurdles with 110 times in the low 15s and recently posted a 39.42 in the 300s.

Aidan Polter, Seaman, 5-10, 156.2, RB/DB, 2022 (@AidanPolter): One of several athletes from Seaman who showed off exceptional athletic ability, Polter ran 4.56 in the 40, 4.34 in the pro agility and did 7 reps at 185 on bench. Just missed a 9-foot broad jump. A starter for part of the season a year ago at defensive back, Polter has a reputation for hard work and physical play. Also plays shortstop on the baseball team.

Trever Quaney, Burlingame, 6-8, 225.4, 2022 (@TreversQ): Quaney's test numbers won't dazzle you, but one unavoidable characteristic that should have recruiters intrigued is his size. A unanimous first team all-league selection in football and basketball, Quaney is regarded as one of the state's top 8-Man players in the Class of 2022. Bearcat football coach Jeff Slater says Quaney took a big step last year and will anchor the Bearcat defensive line this fall. Quaney ran 5.3 in the 40, a solid number for his size, but he has room for improvement in other testing. He recorded 69 total tackles a year ago with 5.5 sacks, 14 TFLs, 10 pass knockdowns and 4 blocked punts, including one for a touchdown. He'll be looked to more on the offensive side of the ball this fall as well.

Cooper Ramsey, Garden City, 6-4, 195.8, WR/DB, 2022 (@Cooper_Ramsey8): Ramsey looks the part of a returning all-conference player, tall and big with a muscular build. And while he didn't test that well at Saturday's Combine he showed off good straight line speed with 40 times in the 4.8 range. Ramsey will be counted on as a consistent defensive presence this season and will be expected to make more of an impact on offense. Ramsey posted 42 total tackles last fall with 6 for loss and a forced fumble.

Brogan Renfro, Silver Lake, 5-10.5, 146, RB/DB, 2022: Undersized running back Brogan Renfro showed why he is a versatile offensive weapon for perennial state power Silver Lake, running 40 times consistently in the 4.6 range along with a 4.45 pro agility and a 27.2 inch vertical jump. He totaled 255 yards rushing on 49 carries with 3 TDs last fall and added 8 catches for 149 yards and another score. On defense he made 2 interceptions. Renfro is also one of the top triple jumpers in Kansas and recently set a new Silver Lake school record in the event with a jump of 44-00.25.

Avery Richardson, Salina Central, 5-11, 180.2, WR/DB. 2023 (@averichardson15): Sophomore Avery Richardson had a nice day at Saturday's Sharp Combine running 40 times in the 4.7s, 4.55 in the pro agility, a 28.6 inch vertical jump and 11 reps at 185 on the bench press. An injury interrupted his season a year ago but Richardson is poised for a breakout season this fall. He's also a talented track athlete with personal bests of 11.83 in the 100 meter dash and 18-11 in the long jump.

Matthew Rudy, Andover, 6-5, 225, 2022 (@MattRudy1): Ran in the high 4.7s with a 28.4 inch vertical jump and 8-5 broad jump with five reps at 225 on bench. Has the frame to add weight, but lacks some hip mobility. Film shows an aggressive blocker and a defender with a nose for the ball.
