The Kansas Football Coaches Association picked their All-State teams in early December, including the All-Class Top 11. Kansas Pregame is providing capsules for each of the Top 11 selections. Blue Valley senior Maguire Richman solidified his place among Kansas high school football’s elite with a standout career that earned him a spot on the KFBCA Top 11. Richman, who signed to play at K-State next fall, helped lead the Tigers to a 6-3 season, including a 5-2 record in the Eastern Kansas League, good for third in what is likely the toughest football conference from top to bottom in the state.

Richman’s versatility and football IQ made him invaluable to the Tigers, as he could line up at both linebacker and defensive back. As a junior and senior he earned all-state honors from the Wichita Eagle, KSHSAA Covered, and Sports in Kansas. In his junior campaign he tallied 132 tackles, an interception, a sack, three forced fumbles, and two blocked punts. As a senior his numbers saw a slight drop due to less total games played, but still stood at an impressive 94 stops with an interception, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.

“Maguire is a positive leader who brings out the best in all of his teammates,” Blue Valley head coach Allen Terrell said. “He will hold you accountable, then he will double the energy when you make a great play. He makes others better.”

Richman’s preparation and understanding of the game were his greatest strengths on the field, according to his coach.

“His biggest strength on the field is his mind,” Terrell said. “He understands the game and will usually arrive at the point of attack before others because of his preparation.”

Terrell recounted a pivotal moment from Blue Valley’s Week 4 win over St. James Academy.

“Their QB throws a strike at nine yards to an open receiver,” Terrell recounted. “Maguire, knowing the down and distance, sat at nine yards and made an extremely physical tackle to not let the receiver gain another inch. It led to a turnover on downs – first down Tigers. He always has known the situation and has been able to make plays like this because of his preparation.”

Richman finishes his career as Blue Valley’s all-time leading tackler, with 353 total stops across three varsity seasons, averaging 11.8 tackles per game. He also contributed on special teams, earning all-state honors as a kicker in two seasons. Off the field, Richman maintains a 4.1 GPA in upper-level classes and excelled in multiple sports, including basketball and golf, where he qualified for state last spring.

Richman, rated a three-star linebacker by 247Sports, received multiple Division I offers, including Iowa, Nebraska, and Kansas, before committing to Kansas State. He was also a finalist for the 2023 Simone Award as the top player in the Kansas City metro area and was nominated for the 2024 Buck Buchanan Award, recognizing the best linebacker, defensive, or offensive lineman in Kansas among Class 5A and 6A players.

“Maguire is the best football player I have ever coached – his preparation, leadership, and production were unprecedented in my time here at BVHS,” Terrell said.

Richman plans to major in mechanical engineering and will join his older brother, Mason, who plays offensive line at the University of Iowa, in continuing their family’s football legacy at the next level.
