Bishop Miege continued to terrorize Class 4A and Daniel Jackson was a big reason why the Stags won their sixth straight state championship.
Before heading off to the University of Minnesota to play for PJ Fleck, Jackson caught 27 touchdowns and had 1,511 receiving yards his senior season. His 27 receiving touchdowns in a season is a state record. For his career, Jackson caught 44 touchdown passes and finished with 2,818 receiving yards.
Jackson would likely be the state record holder for career receiving touchdowns, but missed all but one game of his junior year due to injury. Jackson finished one touchdown shy of tying the record held by Bishop Miege alum and current Notre Dame standout Jafar Armstrong.
Jackson broke out his sophomore season after catching 16 touchdown receptions and piling up 1,270 receiving yards. Jackson is a four-star prospect according to 247Sports and had offers from Wisconsin, Iowa State, Iowa, and Arizona State among others before choosing Minnesota.
Bishop Miege coach Jon Holmes on Jackson: "Daniel Jackson is a rare talent that does not come around very often. He has the ability to take any ball to the end zone. He showed that by catching 27 touchdowns this season, which is the single-season record in the state of Kansas. He came back from a junior season that was cut short by injury. Seeing the way he came back was special. He ended the season as our leader in catches, yards and touchdowns. Off the field he was voted a team captain. He is a hard worker in the weight room.”
