Kansas Pregame 8-Man Top 8: Lane Loiseau
Kansas Pregame polled 8-Man coaches earlier this month who voted for the top four seniors they coached against this season. Kansas Pregame staffers then used those votes to develop a Top 8 list of seniors for each division. Check out several more Top 8 capsules below, and find the complete list of Top 8 selections, and the honorable mention list, here for 8-Man I and here for 8-Man II.
Frankfort’s Lane Loiseau ended a record-breaking high school football career with a standout season in his senior campaign, helping lead the Wildcats to a 9-3 record and a state semifinal appearance in the 8-Man Division II playoffs. Loiseau’s versatility and athleticism in both the offensive and defensive backfields were key to Frankfort’s success on both sides of the ball.
“He has always been one of the most athletic and talented players on the field, but I am most proud of how he grew up as a young man,” Frankfort head coach Nick Anderson said. “ … He bought into what we were trying to accomplish and became very good in areas like leadership, competing when things got tough, and doing all the little things required by our program.”
Loiseau’s senior season saw him rush for 821 yards and 22 touchdowns while catching 52 passes for 895 yards and 14 touchdowns. Defensively, he recorded 116 total tackles, 13 tackles for loss, and broke Frankfort’s 8-Man single-season solo tackle record. His versatility allowed him to excel at multiple positions, including middle linebacker, cornerback, running back, and wide receiver.
“There are not too many kids at our level that are 6-1 and 190 pounds and can run a 4.5 40,” Anderson said. “We were a better team because his talent allowed us to move him all over the place.”
Loiseau’s talent led to multiple highlight plays, often in pivotal moments.
“My favorite play from Lane this season might have been from our Thunder Ridge game,” Anderson said. “They punted the ball to us and it went out of bounds inside our 1-yard line. I asked our quarterback what he wanted to run from there and he said, ‘four verts’. So we ran four verts. Wes hit Lane on a sideline fade route for a 79-yard touchdown. It pretty well demoralized Thunder Ridge.”
Another example of Loiseau’s playmaking ability was on display in a sectional playoff win over Burlingame when he broke four tackles on a 34-yard touchdown run that helped Frankfort gain momentum against an undefeated opponent, leading to a 46-38 win over the Bearcats.
Loiseau finishes his career as one of Frankfort’s most decorated players, holding school records in receiving yards (1,968), receiving touchdowns (33), receptions (127), and points scored (562). He also ranks second in career rushing touchdowns (49) and total tackles (296).
A two-time First Team All-State selection and Sports in Kansas 8-Man Division II Defensive Player of the Year finalist, Loiseau’s athleticism isn't limited to football. He anchored Frankfort’s state championship 4x100 relay team and placed at state in the 200-meter dash, in addition to earning Second Team All-League honors in basketball in his junior season.
