Kansas Pregame 8-Man Top 8: Khris Hermosillo
Kansas Pregame polled 8-Man coaches earlier this month who voted for the top four seniors they coached against this season. Kansas Pregame staffers then used those votes to develop a Top 8 list of seniors for each division. Check out several more Top 8 capsules below, and find the complete list of Top 8 selections, and the honorable mention list, here for 8-Man I and here for 8-Man II.
Wichita County senior running back and defensive end Khris Hermosillo capped off his high school football career as one of the top two-way players in Kansas 8-Man football. Hermosillo helped lead the Indians to an 8-2 record and a trip to the 8-Man Division I state quarterfinals, where they fell to eventual state champion Hoxie, 40-30.
“Khris is a born leader who positively influences his teammates through his dedication to the weight room, intensity, and consistency,” Wichita County head coach Brant Douglass said. “He plays the game with a level of intensity and aggressiveness that is rare in today’s sports environment.”
Hermosillo’s senior season reflected his versatility and impact on both sides of the ball. Offensively, he rushed for 1,009 yards and 19 touchdowns on 100 carries, averaging 10.1 yards per carry. He also caught 13 passes for 283 yards and six touchdowns, including a 65-yard score on a screen pass against Hoxie that showcased his ability as both a power back and a receiving threat. Defensively, Hermosillo recorded 34 total tackles, including 11 tackles for loss, and 8.5 sacks. His physical presence often set the tone for the Indians’ defense.
“Khris’s greatest strength on the field is his natural aggression and traditional football mentality,” Douglass said. “He actively seeks out contact both on offense and defense, often delivering hits that discourage opposing teams from being as willing to make contact on the next play.”
Hermosillo’s impact goes beyond his abilities on the football field, with intangibles that made him a historically good player for the Indians.
"Khris is one of the best players I have ever had the opportunity to coach in my career. He plays the game with a level of intensity and aggressiveness that is rare in today’s sports environment. It has been both an honor and a pleasure to coach such a dedicated player who was so committed to the program."
Over his four-year varsity career, Hermosillo rushed for 3,479 yards and 67 touchdowns while catching 43 passes for 701 yards and 12 touchdowns. On defense, he recorded 148 total tackles, 56 tackles for loss, and 28 sacks, while also recovering 14 fumbles and forcing 11. Hermosillo earned All-State and All-League honors in each of his last three seasons and was named District Player of the Year as a senior.
Hermosillo’s career included playing on four playoff teams and advancing to the state finals twice, winning the state title in 2022. That 2022 state championship team also featured his brother, Erhik Hermosillo, who was the senior quarterback and a selection for the 2022 Kansas Pregame 8-Man Top 8.
Hermosillo is currently considering his options for continuing his football career at the collegiate level.
