Kansas Pregame polled 6-Man coaches who voted for the top three seniors they coached against this season. Kansas Pregame staffers then used those votes to develop a Top 6 list of seniors in the classification. Check out a Top 6 capsule below, and find the complete list of Top 6 selections here. Cunningham seniors Will Wegerer and Luke Albers were pivotal in the Wildcats’ dominance over the past four seasons, helping the team reach four consecutive state title games, including a win in the first KSHSAA-sanctioned 6-Man championship in 2022. Their careers concluded in a thrilling 49-48 loss to Weskan in the 2024 title game.

Wegerer, the team’s signal caller, was a steady and motivating force for his teammates.

"He is extremely calming," head coach Lance McGuire said. "Everyone has more confidence when he tells them where to go and what to do. He elevates everyone."

Wegerer excelled at communicating on the field.

“He knows where everyone is supposed to be and what everyone is supposed to do,” McGuire added. “He is instructional and motivational."

In the 2024 season, Wegerer passed for 1,628 yards and 36 touchdowns with just two interceptions, while adding 320 rushing yards and eight scores. In the championship game, he threw for 304 yards and seven touchdowns, completing 30 of 42 attempts. Over his career, Wegerer totaled 2,590 passing yards and 60 touchdowns.

Albers, a wide receiver and defensive back, consistently delivered in key moments.

"He is a production example guy," McGuire said. "Luke gives his teammates a great play and expects them to play up and match his play."

Known for his reliable hands, Albers often made critical catches in high-pressure situations.

"In the time of need with the QB under pressure, he would be open and make a great catch many times with the other team knowing who was getting the ball," McGuire said.

Albers recorded 441 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns during his senior season, finishing with 758 all-purpose yards. He also contributed 33 tackles, five interceptions, and one fumble recovery on defense. In the championship game, he caught 10 passes for 90 yards and three touchdowns.

Both players earned first team All-State honors in 2024 from multiple outlets and are also multisport standouts. The duo propelled the Wildcats to a 2023-24 state championship on the hardwood with a combined 50 points in the title game. At the time of this writing they’re the top ranked team in 1A-DII at 7-0. Wegerer is also a defending state champ in the pole vault.

After graduation, Wegerer plans to attend a four-year college and pursue physical therapy, while Albers is exploring opportunities in agriculture.
